Nicely done, Queiroz would have been proud!
You don’t want him at the helm of United though. He is a great guy to be on the background looking for players, scouting teams, give advice, but if you put the spotlight on him he goes crazy.
Since becoming the Manager of Portugal he has been in brawl with a sports commentator, and insulted one of those guys of the doping testing (In this last one he had reason to be mad, but still…), plus some pretty horrible decisions in player selection.
What kills me is that Portuguese football owes a big portion of its success to him, since he orchestrated our golden generation (Figo, Rui Costa…), Manchester also has a lot to thank him for his scouting, yet he hasn’t done anything good has the front man.
Has for Mourinho I am all for that, 3 Years in Madrid, 3 years in Manchester, and after that he comes to Portugal to win the World Cup
Who the hell thought having Nani scoring a penalty was a good idea? Specially with Giggs and Scholes in there…
Keep the Podcasts going the viewers will come with time,
Cheers!
Cheers Nuno!
Yeah I think Mourinho is definitely the fans favourite. Interestingly, he is also the bookies favourite to be the next United manaer which is promising. Other than that, there are now too many out there I would really be excited about. I’m actually really interested to see how he gets on at Madrid. That should be a great battle for La Liga next year.
If you have anything you would like discussed or suggestions for the pod, please tell us!
Nuno I think you are spot on about Queiroz being a number 2. Some people are just meant to be like that. He has had the bi jobs and just not delivered. I am sure Murinho will go back to Portugal at some stage and when he does you guys will win World Cups and everything else on offer no matter which players you have!
No need for new manager talk… Fergie and Scholes are gonna live forever! Not liking the theory Rio is finished for good although Evans looks like he is up to the task of replacing him. Carrick and Berbatov need big seasons for us to have any chance this year
Great stuff lads! Loving the Mourihno talk, he’s a massive untied fan and i think he would happily settle at United for many years. The club would be like nothing he’s ever experienced in his managerial career and the stadium alone would help prevent him from packing his bags at a premature stage. Agree with Tom in that Martin O’Neill could not step up to the next level. I would like someone of his character but we need a big trophy winner. The natural instinct is to try and compare the next new man to Fergie but we’re kidding ourselves if we don’t understand that his departure may have a detrimental effect on the club. We’re definitely going to take a step back unless we get a Jose or Fergie takes someone under his wing for a period of time and then hands over the reigns. Who knows lads, he could be doing this already with Mike Phelan but very doubtful. Fergie wasn’t a massive manager when he took over!!!
In an ideal world Keano would become this phenomenal manager over the next couple of years and get Ipswich to Europe whilst patching up with Fergie, becoming his number 2 for 2 years before taking United to a Treble winning season in his first year as boss, beating ‘The Filth” in the final who will be managed by yours truly, Patrick ‘Did you know i once played for Man City’ Vieira at the time!!! Uniiiiiiiiiiiiiiited!
But all jokes aside, Keano knows exactly what United is all about and his passion for the club can be installed into the United players a lot easier than those in other clubs who really feared him than wanting to play for him. The difference with a United team is that there’s little difference between him and the players, as they’ve both been raised with a winning mentality, put on the Reds jersey and played under the same roof!!!
On a seperate note, i’m calling for Niall to be evicted from the podcast until further notice. He’s out of his element with comments such as Carrick is the best passer in the game. I would even put Michael Dawson, A DEFENDER, as a better passer let alone have the midfielders in the game. The fantasy stats don’t lie!! Hope he steps up this year as it’s unlikely Scholes will continue this form throughout the season. Stranger things have happened.
Ooh ahh Cantona………………….
Great stuff, very insightful! The guy in the middle swears a lot; I’d recommend a swear jar…
I think a swear jar is a great idea! The charity can be Dirk Kuyt’s face..
Cruhewer – Great comment, genuinely brilliant! It may saound ridiculous to say but I still think Keane could be our next man. Yes, he doesn’t have all the skills etc and his credentials aren’t great. But, he knows United through and through, he knows what type of football expected at Old Trafford and the standards that are expected. The man is a winner. Obviously his track record would have to improve dramatically before he could step into the breach but you never know.
Other than that, it has to be Mourinho. He is the only manager out there who would excite me to be honest.
I also agree that Carrick isn’t all that, and particularly on current form. Utter tripe from Niall, needs to up his game big time! My big concern is that Scholes’s forms wanes and no one can stepm into breach. Really looking forward to seeing some of Cleverly, big things on the horizon for the boy!
Well the only thing I would say is what about Anderson in the mix? He was looking so strong 18 months ago! Had the world at his feet. He is never going to be the silky passer that we need though!
On the Keane debate there is no bigger fan then me but trust me he would never have the calm head to manage United. He is great in that he commands respect but the big problem is that even though fergie loses it with players he knows when to put the arm around a player and have a bit of a laugh. Nobody hates Fergueson but you get the feeling that lots of the players playing for Keane hate him! Complete legend though and I’d get right behind him if they ever did give it to him!
First of all, funny as hell —->
“I think a swear jar is a great idea! The charity can be Dirk Kuyt’s face..”
As much as I like Keane (I started to support United because of him, Scholes and Giggs), I am with Niall on this one. He is just too volatile, sometimes clubs make the mistake of putting a Legend at the helm of a team just because he is a legend. Might work at first, but if he’s not good it will show very soon.
You said on the podcast that it’s United and Chelsea for the title. Don’t you think City has a word in this? Mourinho backs me on this one so be careful
p.s: That bleeped swearing must have been amazing ahah
Yeah Nuno I heard Murinho on the radio this morning saying it was between Chelsea, City and Utd. Whatever that man says I tend to believe! I really am not sure about city. 15 Amazing players does not make a team. I think they will win the league within 3 years but this won’t be their year. They will be there until about January and may even get top at some stage but I just can’t see them winning it to be honest. That was a serious result they had last night 3-0 against Liverpool but I think it was down to Liverpool really really going down hill!
Haha Nuno, yeah we usually leave the swear words in so it was pretty bad
I agree with you about the legends regularly failing at their former clubs with clubs picking their managers with their heart rather than their head. Although if you asked me would I rather Moyes/O’Neill etc or Keane, I would choose Keane.
I would agree with Niall though. He doesn’t yet have a feel for when he needs to put an arm around a player. He seems to rule by fear and great managers know what their players respond to. He is a long way off for sure but he is a winner, passionate and United through and through.
After City’s performance last night, they look good. Liverpool were terrible though. Mancini has them playing in really compact and effective manner. I still think they are weak in a couple of areas. Their defence is not impenetrable and as the season progresses, controlling all those egos will be difficult for Mancini.
good stuff again lads, dont agree with everything that was said though but thats what makes football so interesting!
and tom it wasn’t me in the box it was my uncle but he is a reliable source all the same!
im looking forward to seeing what style mourinho plays with madrid,if its an attacking one with flair then i would love him at united when Ferguson retires.
i honestly think he is the only manager with a big enough ego to take the reins from Fergie and believe he could be better, let him warm that seat for a few years then see what is available. At least then the pressure of replacing the Great Alex is gone.
Ryan Giggs mentioned the other day that he would love to be united manager, could you imagine it would be perfect, giggs as gaffer, ole as his side-kick and scholes training the kids!
AS for your show concept – Would love to see some clips of the scene in the room when the goals are going in or against, say the cursing could be on overload though.
Arsenal will reclaim the championship, my drunken red friends. The kiddies are all grown up and Papa Arsene wants an enjoyable retirement in dreamy Guyana, where the grass is green and the South Americans speak French. He knows that his petite princes need to deliver so he can ride into the sunset with his ideological flag held higher than the new Clock End at the Emirates.
Van Persie will play a game or two before succumbing to a fractured penis and being ruled out for most of the season. Too bad you say? Game over for Gunners? No, no. You have forgotten the hummus loving Chamakh, who can hold up the ball and bring the world’s most creative attacking midfielders into the game. And so, expect plenty of goals from midfield from the Gunners. As long as Song stays fit, the boo-boys who tried the bullying game with Arsenal will be banished back to Ewood. The centre of defense is now chock-a-block with angry Euro-grit, the half-Polish Koscielny looks the perfect partner for captain-in-waiting, Thomas Vermaelen. No more of that nippy, wimp Gallas who by a sweet turn of fate will be ruining the Spud’s dressing room for the season.
Okay, so what if Almunia remains a bad joke told by a retired clown? It’s better than exposing aristocratic wine connoisseurs like Samir Nasri to a softly spoken drunk from Donegal, or a loud-mouth Wallabie who is old enough to adopt the rest of the squad.
As for Man Utd (seeing as this is your blog), Van Der Sar, is bound to bust a hip this year. But if I’m wrong and Edwin does manage to make it through a season, Man Utd will certainly concede goals. Last season, we all witnessed the veteran’s reduced agility and reflexes. He has also become uncharacteristically slow in his positioning. Time has caught up with the old Jack Russell and it’s high-time he went ‘down the farm’.
Can Scholes maintain the form he been showing so far over a full season? Maybe. Will he get a chance to? Not likely – he’ll start maybe fifteen games. No other real playmaker exists in the squad. Will Carrick be carrying the torch? Yikes. Shift Giggs into a more central role, maybe. There is obviously plenty of attacking threat from the extra from Snatch, the wannabe Denis Berg-atov, the blossoming but volatile Nani, and Antonio “I’m quicker than you. Therefore I will kick the ball ahead of you, beat you to it and deliver a good ball into the box every time” Valencia.
Defensively, we can expect the Serbian savage to stand tall. He’s a mean man by nature. Don’t bring up Kosovo. Trust me. It will be a big year for Jonny Evans and/or Chris Smalling. If they don’t step up, unfortunately for you, neither will Man Utd. Evra has looked average so far – strange considering he is clearly the second best left back in the world. Maybe there is a hangover from the Monty Python sketch at the World Cup. On a side point, one of you mentioned him for future captain at Old Trafford? Pretty bad track record, I would say. O’Shea will fill the gap on the right without sparklers or Black Cats. Alternatively, the talented but naive Rafael may be ready for a chance.
No doubt, Man Utd’s consistent winning mentality, individual brilliance, abundant attacking options and physical strength will put them in the race for the title this year. However, a prolonged period without Rooney, Scholes or Vidic will prove detrimental. For that reason, the race will be won by the Young Gunners. Chelsea will capitulate late in the season due to gang-bang gossip involving John Terry, Ashley Cole and Princess Di’s decomposed corpse. That means Fergie will have to settle for a bronze medal. I expect his face will only turn redder.
