GGMU podcast immediately after a morning workout, brilliant!
About the Rooney stuff we have to be positive. Maybe he has been worried about it, and now that the story is out he’ll just think what’s done is done lets score some goals.
I am also a fan of Fletcher, but he is just not as strong and aggressive as Keane. That’s where he looses a bit.
Also surprised that Anderson has turned out to be a good defensive player, not the image i had from him playing in Portugal.
Just saw on a Portuguese newspaper that Bebé has been haded to Champions League squad, the news was just out about 20 minutes ago, so no way you guys could have known when you were doing the podcast.
Going to leave a link to a YouTube a video of Bebé’s best play, not sure if the link it’s going to appear because i have been to some blogs where you can’t post links (for good reasons):

Good show again!
Cheers!
Cheers for sharing that link Nuno. He looked really good on that run! Enough there to suggest he could be worth 7 million even if it is a under 21 game I’d say! Will be an interesting one to watch as the season goes on!
I’m a big fan of Rooney the player but all this smoking cigarettes and frequenting prostitutes making the headlines doesn’t fare well, he is letting the club down when they should all be just concentrating on winning trophies. I blame the money their on too, makes them think they are invincible. I hope he sorts it out and gets his down to do what he does best.
Fletcher is a great player needs to get score a bit more though, I’d rather him in there than Essien definitely. I think Carrick has had his day at Old Trafford now though, need to sort Anderson out and get him back in the team. Hopefully now he is back from injury he will take a leaf out of Nanis book and do some extra training. Otherwise he will miss the boat and Cleverly will be back next year to take his chance.
Wellbeck is still improving and on a learning curve, he is still only 20 and even though Sunderland bought another striker it shouldnt matter as Campbell picked up an injury meaning Wellbeck is first choice sub.
As for Bebe, his run that Nuno linked to above looks good but I cant see him doing much this season. He does look like more of a winger than a striker. Speaking of wingers where is Gabriel Obertan? He hasnt done much since his couple of cameos last season!!
Dave,
I agree with you to an extent on the Rooney point. All I really care about is him playing well and scoring goals but obviously smoking, hookers and nightclubs isn’t exactly cohesive to that. I also agree that it doesn’t reflect well on the club. I’m just nervous that this leads into a messy divorce etc etc.
Still not convinced on Welbeck. Just not sure he will be good enough to be a main striker for us. Much more excited by Hernandez and Macheda. I hope I’m wrong and this season at Sunderland should tell a lot.
Good point on Obertan! I actually quite liked the look of him last season but he like Whodini this season. He will be a squad player at best this year I think and I’m excited by Nani and Valencia on the wings.
I have to say I’m inclined to agree with you about Carrick, it doesn’t look good for him. Cleverley is probably the answer long term but should we have bought someone short term?
Have to say the next three weeks will be hard for Rooney depending on much stuff comes out.I’m not bothered about it if he is on form.van der vaart was never going to happen because of fergies hatred for Madrid.I think terry was way worse though because:
1.Wayne bridge had to retire from international football because of him.
2.he acted like he had no conscience.
3.bridges wife had an abortion.
4.terry never apologised.
5.the media never went to town on him for what he done.maybe because it was world cup year.
6.the Chelsea fans were wearing “team terry” shirts like he was innocent.
7.acted like he was wronged when capello took the captaincy off him.(should never have brought in my opinion.
Don’t think united fans will be wearing team Rooney shirts.
Terry in England is bulletproof.he can do anything he wants.
Tom,
I think the midfielders we have should cover us for most eventualities. Buying someone would only hamper somebody else’s growth like Gibson, Anderson or Cleverly. Gibson and Anderson need to step up this season if they are ever going to.
Wellbeck got 2 for England Under 21′s which is a good sign. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-GgLvUasoQ . I don’t think he is a natural leader of the front line in a sense but having watched him for the reserves and youths he does have an eye for goal. If he was the same size as Macheda he would be in the first team now. Im not sold on Macheda, he got 2 important goals but hasn’t done much since and seems to be a bit of a playboy but sure I’ll wait and see how he develops.
Hernandez is an exciting player though!
Yeah thats fair Dave, I just think that Macheda has more raw talent. Yes, he is a bit cocky etc but the hunger and ambition to do well seem to be there.
I am definitely not sold on Gibson. He has a great shot but is nowhere near the level needed in my book. Looks very lightweight to me. Really looking forward to seeing Anderson come back and push for a place. I want to have a really good look at him to see just how good he can be. Do you rate him?
Yeah your right about Gibson, he doesnt seem mobile enough. I definitely rate Anderson, he has all the attributes to be a force in there, he is quick, strong, spots a good pass has more skill than he shows most of the time and maybe eventually he will sort his shooting out!
It could be because he is Brazilian and has a quirky personality that both of us it seems have patience when it comes to fulfilling potential!
What I find interesting in this discussion is that we are all talking about youth and what could be coming through in the future. That is never a position we have been in before and clearly shows the shit state the club’s finances are in! Next thing we will be like Arsne Wenger and talking up the kids for 10 years without winning anything! Not that bad yet but you know what I mean, we now need to get excited about 7 million purchases! Still in Fergie we trust
tis true, theres no big signings these days we dont have the cash to compete, but you always have to have an eye on the youth with united, they recruit the very best at a young age and watching them develop is interesting. The first team squad now even apart from Giggs and Scholes has plenty of lads that came through the youths and to compete in the future thats where we have to gain advantage.
Fergie knows best though, if he realizes these lads cant make an impact then he whips out the cheque book so hopefully if needed he can do that again!
Very difficult to hear you guys at different points in this podcast.
Yeah Jeremy, we are working at getting 3 mics to rectify this! Cheers for the feedback
