There has been some talk recently as to who the next captain of United should be after Rio and Ryan Giggs. There are definitely a few strong potential candidates in the frame. Rooney has naturally been touted as a future captain as have Jonny Evans and Patrice Evra.
For my money, if I had to pick a future captain now, it would be Darren Fletcher. Many people wouldn’t agree with this but he embodies a lot of what is required to be a United captain. He is passionate, committed and has a level head. The main reason I wouldn’t give it to Rooney just yet as I’m not sure he would thrive in the role. We should just let Wazza play his game, not burden him with more responsibility or pressure.
The talk of captains got me thinking of great United captains. For me, there can only be one. Roy Keane may not have had a level head at times but he was the type of leader the players would follow into battle. He was the club. His drive to succeed for United and the standards he set may never be matched. He was the type of player you wanted on your side and he would never even fathom taking a backward step.
The video below ie easily the best Keane tribute around and I still get goosebumps every time I watch it. Essential viewing for any United fan. Roy Keane – the true captain fantastic.

Wazza all the way for me. Just think about Keano at 24, he is exactly where Keano was at when he was that age. The only thinkg I can think that goes against him is the position he plays in. Strickers never make great captains. Defo Wazza
